Basket of Sunshine

Hey guys! I just want to show you a gift I gave out to one of my best friends. ITS A BASKET OF SUNSHINE! If you love pinterest as much as I do you might have noticed the boxes of sunshine people send out and I just adored them so I decided to make my own for Britt.  If you have a friend with a bubbly wonderful happy personality this is most definitely a good ideal gift for them.  

Maybe this will help give you some ideas on what to put in your own sunshine gift basket. 

So I suppose I should show you the content?

This is a handmade pillow by me! I made the fabric myself and I will be posting a DIY on how to do this yourself right away.

A lot of the items are bee related because Brittanys "thing" is Beeeee bold! She used it as her campaign slogan to run for a state FBLA office and I think it works rather well for her.

Recycled Easter basket DIY

Recycled Easter egg Basket DIY

We all hoard the cute baskets we get at Easter time because they are just to stinkin cute to throw away! Here is a DIY on how to put those baskets to use in a cute way.  

I might have a few baskets ;)

Supplies:

• Basket of choice 
• hot glue gun 
• Scissors 
• fabric of choice (large enough to fill your basket) 

Step one: Cut off the handles to your basket.  

(For some baskets this step might be harder than others)

Step Two: Measure the length and the width of your basket.  

My length was about 13" and my width was 12". 

Some baskets are perfectly circular so it will be the same length as it is width.  

Some of my scribbles to try and figure out how the project will work.  I probably looks like giberish lol 

Step Three:

You need to add 2" to the length and the width of the fabric to leave seam allowance 

Just Take your measurements and add 2"

For example:

Length= 13" + 2" = 15" 

Now do the same for the width

Step four: Measure out your piece of fabric

Step five:

Round off the edges 

Be careful not to take to much off or it will not fill the basket correctly

Step Six: Fold over the raw edge and glue it to the basket.  

I recommend you start by gluing down the four corners first to make it easier to manipulate the fabric later. 

(This is the tricky part)

Step Seven: To finish start folding the rest of the fabric down and gluing. 

Some of it will have to be over lapped and tucked to get it all to fit.

Add ribbon around the edge or ruffles 

keep the handles

fill the bottom of the basket with decorative rocks

Easter Egg ground flowers DIY

Easter Egg DIY

Easter is sneaking up on us and I am actually getting further on DIY'S for it than I did for saint Patricks day that is for sure because lets be real that was sad.. 

But on the bright side I am actually kind of in love with these eggs on the stick things? Ways to use these could go on and on. This is a great way to get rid of some of those plastic eggs that keep cluttering up in your attic year after year.  I will have a few ideas at the end of this post to give you a little inspiration. 

I am going to use mine as yard ornaments on Easter all over my yard and I am going to put them in a planter with some flowers to represent spring and to celebrate Easter :) 

Supplies:

• Wooden dowels/skewers 
• Plastic eggs
• nail or screw
• lighter 
• candle 

Step one- Heat your screw or nail

I suggest using a nail but all I had on hand was a screw it all works the same I promise.  Heat your screw over the flame right in it for about 30 seconds.  It may take some time to figure out how long you need to keep it in the flame but you will quickly become an expert.



Step two- press the heated nail into the egg

This is how you should be able to tell weather or not you heated your screw long enough.  It should just melt right threw and cause a hole.  Careful in case it heated up near your hand but press it into the egg firmly.



Depending on the size of your nail and the size of your dowel will depend on how big your hole needs to be.  I ended up having to make mine slightly bigger to fit my dowel. Just play around with it but make sure to be careful.



Step three- insert dowel 

Simple enough?



Done! :)  how cute!?!? am I right?

Hey guys! Its fancy Friday! What did you wear? 

I know you guys are all probably mad at me because I haven't exactly been posting as much as I should have been but all of a sudden a lot happened at once very unexpectedly and I was not prepared for it but I am back I have got a ton of spring inspiration for DIY'S and I am super excited for Easter. 

Yes I am wearing pink cowboy boots with this outfit and no I am not ashamed.  I had to add my own personal touch to this outfit because it had a more modern feel than what I am used to.  I am usually all thrift and look like a total chic grandma but today I kind of sort of looked like a modern teen?



How do you guys feel about Hi-low's?  I am still not sure if I am that crazy about them but it was a forever 21 skirt I found at goodwill and at the time I thought they were great.



Yeah I really am not for sure what I am doing here.....



I did add another more "lizzy" touch by wearing a vintage hand tooled leather belt I picked up at an estate sale.

I am also curious to know what you guys are wearing for Easter?  I still have not got the slightest clue honestly.



Another lizzy-fied piece in this outfit is the necklace.  It is vintage, also something I picked up at an estate sale.  I recommended trying some estate sales out you can buy boxes of stuff for just a couple bucks!

Easter egg Decorating DIY

Decorating Eggs DIY

There is a quick egg display DIY at the end of this post as well.

Decorating eggs is a great Easter tradition for most of us but I wanted to do an egg decorating tutorial that is a little more stylish than your  average koolaid dye.  

The way we are going to make these will also allow you to keep them over time to let you enjoy them for years to come.  

To make these eggs last we have to hallow them out.

Supplies for hallowing

• Bowl
• egg
• push pin 

Step one- push the pin into the pointed side of the egg

There are two sides of your egg there is the fat side and there is the pointed side.  Gently push the pin into the pointed side of the egg. 

Step two- make a pinky sized hole on the fat side of the egg

Now on the fat side of the egg repeat poking holes into the egg until you get a hole about the size of your pinky nothing bigger. 

Step three- Blow out the egg yolk and whites 

Just put your mouth on the side of the egg with the small hole and blow out the insides into a bowl.  This will be very easy and I promise its not gross you will not be able to taste the egg. 

Now you have supper :) 

I am going to show you three different ideas so you will need three different eggs all hollowed out.

 

For the first egg we are going to paint a lace print on it.  

You need practically no skill for this one its a great starting project.

A variation of this project is you cold also cover it in a glitter or glue the lace strait to the egg instead of painting it.  

Supplies:

• Newspaper/well ventilated area 
• egg
• old lace 
• paint of your choice (spray paint works best)

Step one- lay out your newspaper than cover egg in lace

Lace with large open holes in it works best.  When you lay it out plan what part of the lace you want printed on your egg. 

Continue to do this until you get hole thing covered.  let it dry and your done!

If you see from the picture of all three of the eggs I went and added another color to mine to make it a little better.  If you are going to do this I would recommend doing your light color first  than your dark color over it.  

The next DIY will be a decoupage egg using old patterns.  

There could be many variations added to this one.  You don't have to use an old sewing pattern there are many things that you could add to this egg like newspaper or some magazine pages.  I would like to try covering one with fabric scraps myself. Supplies

• Old patterns (or whatever you are covering your egg with)
• Mod podge (regular glue works fine to.  I will levee a link on how to make your own mod podge. 
• paint brush 
• egg

Step one- Cut pieces out of pattern

To get the best results cut pieces that have a lot of markings on them. 

Step two- cover egg in mod podge

This sounds easy enough right? Again if you are not using mod podge the same process applies with whatever you are using. 

Step three- Cover egg 

Start covering your egg by laying whatever you are using.  Try your best to get the most markings on the egg for the best results, this may take a little manipulating. 

Sometimes the more layers you add the better it looks you shouldn't be able to see the egg through the paper.  

This DIY will show you how to make a textured egg using a glue gun.

This last one is very different and the customization to this one is endless because you can draw any design you want. 

Supplies

• Hot glue gun 
• newspaper 
• Egg
• Paint (pray paint works the best)

Step one- draw out your design 

Step two- trace design with hot glue

As you can see I ended up not following my design perfectly but its good to have just so you don't mess it up.  Once the glue is on it will not be coming off. 

Step three- paint

I just pray painted mine in balck but I think a brown would add a very rustic look as well.  Go crazy with the colors on this one.

Egg display DIY

Supplies

• Old book
• Brown or black paint 
• Something to draw with 
• Scissors/exacto knife

Step one- distress book 

There are many ways to distress your book.  I blotted paint onto an old newspaper and rubbed it all over the book.  The next thing you can do is take your scissors and rub the sharp side on the edges on the corners of the book. 

Step two- draw your circles 

Your holes should be about pinky sized.  You shouldn't be able to see the holes wen the eggs are on them.  It should be just enough were the base of the egg can rest in them. 

Step three- puncture holes 

I just took my sissors and jamed them into the holes and turned the scissors repeatedly to make the hole because they were the perfect size.  Once you do this you will stand to clean up the top so the egg can stand on it easily.  

lastley balance your eggs on the holes (this may take a bit of practice) If you don't care to reuse your stand just glue the eggs into the holes.  

You are now done! Have a good easter guys! :)
